Week 28 Preview: all you need to know

The Legion does not have a game this weekend. Wednesday’s daytime matchup with the Tampa Bay Rowdies is officially Week 29, so the good guys get to rest up while everyone else battles it out. To catch up, Week 29 will be a double-game week for the Legion who will also head to Indianapolis next Sunday.

Best of the rest

For this weekend then, here are the games you will want to watch out for:

Pittsburgh Riverhounds v. Louisville City (6:00pm, CBS Sports Golazo Network)

The Riverhounds’ comfortable 2-0 win over the Oakland Roots last week combined with the Legion getting cheated out of 2 points to make for a 9-point gap which will be hard to make up. But Lou City has its own winning business to attend to despite having already clinched home field in the first round of the playoffs. A win and results elsewhere could fix them no lower than 2nd. That gap may not get any wider. Note that they drew 0-0 earlier this season.

Rhode Island FC v. Indy Eleven (6:00pm, ESPN Select)

Indy are 4 points up on the Legion; Rhody are 2 up. Whatever happens the Legion will fall back a bit. Obviously the most positive outcome will be a draw. Given the weak performances of both teams of late that’s very much on the cards. Rhode Island did play in the Jägermeister Cup in midweek though (they failed to score both in regulation and the shootout).

Tampa Bay Rowdies v. Colorado Springs Switchbacks (6:30pm, ESPN Select)

The Rowdies will be on very short rest for Wednesday’s game. This is an absolute must-win for them; this will use up their game in hand over the Legion and a win would give them a 1-point lead before coming here. The Switchbacks are clinging to the last playoff spot in the West and will not make it easy for them. This has the makings of a good game and is an absolute must-see for scouting reasons anyway.

Las Vegas Lights v. The™ Miami FC (9:30pm, ESPN Select)

The Lights are not last in the West, if only on tiebreakers (they are 10th in a 3-way tie). Miami of course is last in the East and sitting on a 4-game losing streak and keeps dumping players at a bizarre point on the season. However, if Tampa Bay and Miami both win the Legion will drop to last in the East. Miami is still on the Legion schedule though so the deficit would not be disastrous.
