Birmingham City fall 0-3 to WatfordThe Blues' struggles continue
Birmingham City parted company with manager Aitor Karanka last Tuesday after just eight months in charge. They immediately replaced him with Lee Bowyer, who was thrown in at the deep end. Bowyer’s first game at the helm was the following day, and the Blues came up with a critical 2-1 win over 6th-place Reading.
HIs next outing was on Saturday against an even stronger opponent in Watford. Watford are currently in 2nd place and look to be a lock for promotion to the Premier League. It didn’t turn out so well.
Watford ended up 3-0 winners, although the scoreline reportedly did not reflect the quality of Birmingham’s play. However, the loss was a hit to the Blues’ hopes of remaining in the Championship. They currently stand in 21st place, just out of the relegation zone and have a 3-point advantage over Rotherham United in 22nd. The kicker is that because of COVID postponements, Rotherham have four games in hand over Birmingham. The two teams do have to play each other one more time this season, a home game for Rotherham on April 17th.
Birmingham City have eight games remaining in the season, and they will need to extract as many points as possible from them.
