Game Report: Birmingham City 2-0 Stoke CityAnother good day all around
A Lukas Jutkiewicz brace either side of half time powered the Blues to yet another win against the visiting Potters.
Stoke City came into the game depleted by injuries. Despite that, they dominated possession at 62%. Even so, futility ruled the day as Birmingham outshot them 9-5. And only 1 of those 5 was on goal. They did find the back of the net once, but the goal was ruled offside. Which would not have been enough to overcome Jutkiewicz’ effort anyway. Those 2 goals took his total for the Blues to 51 in league play.
The result had an air of inevitability about it: Stoke had not won at Birmingham in over 32 years.
The Blues have now enjoyed 3 straight home wins under Lee Bowyer, their best streak in over 2 years. They also have 3 straight clean sheets, best in over 3 years.
Results elsewhere in the Championship also went in Birmingham’s favor. Coventry City got hammered 4-1 at Bournemouth and Rotherham United drew 0-0 at Huddersfield Town. That saw the Blues jump to 18th in the table.
