Looking to shore up the defense Birmingham Legion announced today that it has resigned last years USL rookie defender, Jake Rufe. The Huntsville, Alabama native earned 6 starts last year in the Birmingham back line, and made a total of 11 appearances. Jake is the third Gatorade Alabama Boys State Player of the year to sign with the the Legion, so Birmingham has highs hopes for this 25 year old. (See Chandler Hoffman, and J.J. Williams.) Rufe’s defensive numbers aren’t too shabby for a rookie either. Winning over 50% of his duels, both aerial and on the ground. Jake hit 70% of his tackles, and thus proved hard to get by last year for the Legion. With 5 defenders on the roster there should be plenty of competition, and opportunity for anyone to break into the starting line up. Rufe will look to improve those rookie numbers in his second year with Birmingham Legion, and solidify his claim to a starting spot in the Legions 2021 Campaign.
