Player Ratings: Week 3, vs Memphis 901

A well deserved win.

What a way to welcome a rival. A fast paced Birmingham Legion, cut up Memphis 901, but it was their keeper John Berner that Legion snatched the win from. After an immensely fun evening here is how we assess Legions outing at Legion Field.

11: Neko Brett – 8.5 – Another goal for the big man. Another win for Birmingham Legion. Constantly dangerous in the box. Could have had more, but John Berner had himself an evening in goal for Memphis 901.

10: Prosper Kasim – 6.5 – Looked really good in the opening 20 minutes, only to be subbed off with an injury in the 25th.

8: Bruno Lappa – 7.5 – Each touch gets tighter for Lappa. He cut up the Memphis midfield with his passing all evening. He and Junior Flemmings will be a midfield force to be reckoned with.

6: Anderson Asiedu – 7.0 – Not so sure he deserved the yellow card, but he did get one, early too. That didn’t deter Asiedu from his defensive duties however, and his distribution looks better each match.

7: Ryan James – 7.0 – James’ defensive positioning is improving. I would like to see him get beat a little less in the defensive third, but his ball control and his eye for going forward make him a danger.

3: Phanuel Kavita (C) – 7.0 – A little quieter on the evening, but still a solid rock in the back line.

22: Ben Ofeimu – 7.0 – Another sturdy performance. Always making his case to be in the starting line up.

13: Jake Rufe – 7.5 – Defensively sound. His runs into the attack kept Memphis on their heels all evening.

23: J.J. Williams – 7.5 – A dominant force in the attack. He and Rufe’s interplay down the wing kept defenders occupied all evening.

77: Junior Flemmings – 9.0 – My Man of the Match. Flemmings is a menace in the midfield. He did it all against Memphis. Ball control, passing, runs, everything. Again, if not for John Berner, Flemmings influence could have made this a much more lopsided score line.

1: Matt Van Oekel – 8.5 – Called on much more often than expected, the big man came up strong against everything Memphis’ attack could muster. Getting a keeper assist in the third match of the season isn’t too shabby either. Flemmings stellar play for the evening is all that keeps Van Oekel from being MotM.

Subs & More

17: Jaden Servania – 7.0 – A nice little run about to keep in shape.

16: Daigo Kobayashi – 7.0 –  Came on a little late to help see the match out. Always nice to see a legend.

12: Eli Crognale – 7.5 – While not expecting to play nearly as many minutes as he did, Crognale did a great job filling in for Kasim.

Coach Soehn – 8.5 – The plan was clear from the get go. Attack. Injuries are keeping options limited, but I would have liked to have seen a bit more shuffling of the front three in the second half. Outside of that, great game plan, good execution.
