It took 347 minutes of play this season, but Birmingham City’s extended clean sheet at last came to an end. In the 77th minute of today’s Championship game against Bournemouth. They then conceded a second time just 10 minutes later. And for the second consecutive game (both at home), the Blues failed to score themselves, and ended up with their first loss of the young season.

It was a hard loss – Birmingham had dominated play the entire game up to the goal, and even found the back of the net, only to have the goal called offside. Despite only having 35% possession throughout the game, the Blues held Bournemouth without a single shot in the first half, and created a good number of chances of their own. But offsides were the downfall of Birmingham – they were called off 5 times, essentially snuffing out several good scoring chances.

History was on Bournemouth’s side: the Cherries have never lost at St. Andrew’s in a total of 13 games.

One positive to take away from the game is the continued excellent play of Manchester United loanee Tahith Chong, who has impressed all season so far. Chong, playing in a left wing position, was literally all over the field and is a very good reason for Blues’ fans to have a positive outlook for the season ahead.
