Game Report: Queens Park Rangers 2-0 Birmingham CityAnother scoreless performance
Tuesday night the Blues fell to their third straight game without scoring, and their fourth game without a win in what is now Lee Bowyer’s worst stretch of games since taking over as manager. Birmingham City has 1 point of the last 12 and has clearly hit a slump very early.
Playing in a heavy downpour most of the game the Blues were not totally dominated however, and had most of the early chances before an Ilias Chair shot was deflected into the Blues’ net. Chair doubled his scoring in the 64th minute and QPR rode out the rest of the game to take the victory.
Still, Birmingham’s attack needs fixing. Of the 13 shots they took in this game, none were on target, somewhat belying the 1.59 xG for the match. New signing Troy Deeney still has yet to deliver, and at forward had just one shot in 56 minutes on the pitch. On the positive side, loanee Tahith Chong continues to shine.
Next up for the Blues is a chance to get some redemption, with a home game against relegation-zone Nottingham Forest this Saturday (9:00am). Then comes a chance to take stock as the EFL Championship takes an international break.
