Enzo Martinez joins the Birmingham LegionFrom Bogan to Ashla
As if the Legion hadn’t regaled us with enough news this week, they came up with a goodie for Friday. Attacking midfielder Enzo Martinez, formerly with Charlotte Independence, will be joining the Three Sparks for the upcoming season (the terms of his contract were not released).
The Uruguayan effectively became available when the Independence, in anticipation of the entry into MLS of Charlotte FC this season, self-relegated to USL League One. He was a long-time member of the Independence, playing for them since their inception in 2015, with the exception of 2018 when he was with the Colorado Rapids of MLS. His professional career began in 2013 when Real Salt Lake, who had drafted him in 2012 but not used him, sent him on loan to the Carolina Railhawks of the NASL (now North Carolina FC of League One), where he stayed for two years. Prior to that he played for the North Carolina Tar Heels.
He is of course already well-known to Legion fans as the infamous “man-bun” whose on-field antics earned Anderson Asiedu a red card. The opprobrium directed his way by the crowd will end now, I guess.
With that, welcome Enzo Martinez!
