Game Report: Swansea City 0-0 Birmingham CityThe Blues' drought continues
In a game that proves that possession often doesn’t mean very much, the Blues came away with a single road point, but could have taken all three points.
The eventual scoreless draw was dominated by Swansea in terms of holding the ball, but Birmingham did far more with it in the 34% of the time they controlled it. They racked up 15 shots and 5 big scoring chances as compared to 9 and 0 by the Swans. Even better, 12 of the shots were from inside the 18, indicating that Birmingham was able to generate considerable pressure. The Blues’ xG for the game was a healthy 2.24, but they never managed to convert any of their chances.
The Birmingham ascendancy was especially true in the second half, during which Swansea only managed two shots and never looked threatening. Birmingham, on the other hand, put up 9 in the second half and clearly looked overall the better side over the lackluster home team.
Still, the Blues have now played 347 minutes since their last goal in the 13th minute against Bristol City. With 7 games remaining in the season, the team remains mired in 19th place, but is 14 points clear of the relegation zone. They now the March international break to figure out how to fix the problem before their next game hosting 12th place West Brom on Sunday, April 3rd (9:00am, no US TV).
