Legion to play US Open Cup match in Tuscaloosa

Today it was announced that the Birmingham Legion’s first US Open Cup match since 2019 (the tournament was cancelled the past two years) will be played at the University of Alabama Soccer Stadium in Tuscaloosa. The game will be played Thursday April 7th at 7:00pm.

The UA stadium was built in 2004 and can accommodate 1,500 seated spectators, with standing room for more, and also boasts the largest video scoreboard at any college soccer stadium in the country, having inghewrited the old one from Bryant-Denny Stadium after it was renovated. All UA students and existing Legion season ticket holders will get free admission.

The opponent for the game will be Southern States SC Stars, who convincingly beat the Georgia Revolution 3-1 in the first round this past Tuesday. The game can be watched on YouTube at this link. Both teams play in the semi-professional National Premier Soccer League. The Stars hail from Hattiesburg, MS.
