GK: MATT VAN OEKEL – 7. MVO was credited with zero saves in the game; Detroit got just 1 shot on target all afternoon and Matt had little chance to stop it. He also made only 21 passes, with 71.4% accuracy.
LB: MOSES MENSAH – 7. For the second straight game Moses’ attacking options were more or les shut down and he was able to send in only 2 crosses, both unsuccessful. Defensively, he had 5 clearances and 1 interception and won 6 of 11 duels. Decent accuracy rate of 78.8% on 33 tries.
CB: TIAGO SUAREZ – 8. Brought into the starting XI as a very late replacement for Ramiz, Tiago went the full 90 for the first time as a Legionary and made the most of it. He put up 1 tackle, 3 clearances and 1 interception while winning 4 of 5 duels. He even had a shot on target and delivered a cross but not finding his man. Good on 53 of 58 passes too.
CB: PHANUEL KAVITA – 9. Apart from scoring the tying goal, Phanny gets extra credit for staring down Devin Amoo-Mensah. That was his only attacking action but he was a bull in defense as usual. A whopping 7 clearances and 2 interceptions along with 4 of 5 duels won. He also connected on 93% of 43 passing attempts. Man of the Match, naturally.
RB: JAKE RUFE – 7. Jake played 79 minutes. He had no real impact in the attack and had to make just 2 tackles and 1 clearance. He won 3 of 4 duels and was good on 75% of 32 passes.
DM: EDWIN LASZO – 7.5. The newest member of the Three Sparks was brought into the lineup with limited lead time and was clearly effective as the designated enforcer. He was involved in 7 fouls, committing 3 of them, and getting a yellow card. 1 tackle and 2 clearances and he was in a hefty 13 duels, winning 7. He also created 1 scoring chance. A great addition.
LW: DANNY TREJO – 7. Danny went 72 minutes Sunday and recorded 1 shot off target and 2 unsuccessful crosses. He did however offer strong defensive support, making 5 tackles and 1 interception and won 5 of 8 duels. Impressive. Low passing accuracy rate of 61.9% on 21 tries.
CM: ENZO MARTINEZ – 6.5. Enzo’s call for a foul in the box was weak, to be honest and he probably shouldn’t have taken the yellow card. 1 blocked shot and 3 unsuccessful crosses. He lost 6 of 7 duels and was good on only 14 of 21 passes.
CM: TYLER PASHER – 8. Tyler is the engine that drives this team. Stats don’t quite reflect what he brings to the team in terms of attacking threats; even so: 2 blocked shots and 1 chance creation in the game. He won 7 of 8 duels and was accurate on 90% of his 40 passes.
RW: SEBASTIAN TREGARTHEN – 7. Seba seems to have solidified his position on the wing and deservedly so. This time he made 3 crosses and connected on 1 of them and was credited with a scoring chance. And that boot to his stomach should have been another chance. Subbed out after 79 minutes.
FWD: RONALDO DAMUS – 7. Another game without a goal but Ronaldo was in Carlos Herrera’s face all game and was pressing like crazy. He did have 3 shots: 1 on target, 1 off and 1 blocked. 1 scoring chance created and offside twice.
SUB: KOBE HERNANDEZ-FOSTER – 6.5. Kobe replaced Danny and generated 1 shot off target, made 2 successful cross and created 1 scoring chance. Not bad. He also picked up a yellow right after Phanny’s goal though.
SUB: PRESTON TABORT ETAKA – 7. Preston came on for Seba and provided 1 scoring chance in shortish time. Didn’t do much else.
SUB: STEPHEN TURNBULL – 7. Stephen came on with Preston and likewise didn’t have a great deal to do. Good on all 6 of his passes and won both of his 2 duels.
HEAD COACH: MARK BRIGGS – 8. Other than a slowish start to the game, Mark got what he was looking for out of the team mostly: defensive solidity and speed with the ball. He should have had his first Legion win but there’s no accounting for PRO referees.
