Not good

This one started badly, and just got worse from there.

Easily the Blues’ worst game this year – even after the 4-1 loss to Fulham  in midweek – Saturday saw them allow 3 goals to a struggling Posh on a four-game losing streak. That effectively ended very quickly, as Birmingham’s Harlee Dean conceded an own goal in the first minute. Later in the first half Jonson Clarke-Harris scored from the penalty spot after Ryan Woods committed a foul in the box, earning a yellow card in the process, and the Blues went to the break already down 2.

The second half didn’t get any better. Peterborough’s Jorge Grant added a third just 5 minutes into the half. 14 minutes after that any chance of redemption disappeared when Birmingham’s Gary Gardner was shown the red card.

Overall, the game was not an offensive showcase, with the teams combining for just 4 shots on goal. The Blues failed to convert on any of the 9 chances they created, thanks in large part to an excellent defensive performance by the hosts, not least goalkeeper Dai Cornell.

The loss sees Lee Bowyer’s team drop another place in the table to 11th. Next up for the Blues is the home match against Preston next Saturday at 9:00am.
