Junior Flemmings to leave Birmingham Legion

The offseason moves begin

In social media posts today, Junior Flemmings announced that he will not return to the Legion for the 2022 season. He posted the following statement:

Obviously, this leaves things wide open as to where he will play next season. To date, Junior’s entire 6-year professional career has been in the USL, with two years at New York Red Bulls II, a year with the Tampa Bay Rowdies, two years with Phoenix Rising and most recently this past year in Birmingham. Over those 6 seasons he scored 57 goals in 142 appearances, including 6 in 21 games for the Legion.

Doubtless this will not be the only roster move this offseason, but for this to come before the season is technically over is somewhat unusual. For the Legion the question obviously becomes: who replaces him? Assuming that Neco Brett remains with the team, a second big-numbers striker might be difficult to attract. We shall see.

Until then, we at the Forge thank Junior for his contributions to the team and wish him well in his future endeavors.
